As we continue to communicate with our stakeholders, we will return to our weekly Redesign Spotlight. Each week we will spotlight one of our redesign implementations. Today we are sharing some background on the Kansans Can School Redesign Project. In 2015, Kansas State Board of Education announced its new vision for education- Kansas leads the world in the success of each student. Kansans have identified the need for their schools to transition to a student -focused system that provides support and resources for individual success. We are moving away from a “one-size-fits-all” system that relies exclusively on state assessments. Kansans want schools to place an equal amount of focus on assisting students in developing nonacademic skills, like social-emotional growth, as they do on developing academic skills. In August of 2017, USD 271-Stockton was named a Mercury School in Redesign. Our vision- We are TIGER Ready! (TIGER stands for tiger touchstones, innovative, grit, empowered, and relationships) is guiding us through school redesign.
