On Wednesday of this week Courtney Flower was a guest during 7th Grade Kansas History. She explained how the city of Stockton functions as a city, her role as city manager/clerk, skill set and education to be successful in the position. We discussed how the budget works to pay employees, pool expenses, street repairs and the water treatment plant.
The class was engaged and inspired by what it takes for the city to function on a daily basis.
These students completed a Spring Break Reading Challenge Bingo Challenge! We celebrated with ice cream and more books! #TigerPride271

As part of our social-emotional goal area, USD 271 staff has participated in three in-services with Rebecca Lewis to become trauma responsive. Through this training, we have implemented Zones of Regulation with our students and staff. Zones of Regulation is a tool used to help monitor, self-regulate and control emotions. Zone of Regulation uses four colors, red, yellow, green and blue, to help students visually and verbally recognize how they are doing emotionally at any given moment. Students and staff understand that anyone can experience the four zones throughout their day, but by understanding the zones, we are learning to adjust our thinking and using our tools to get us back into the green zone and ready to learn or teach.
"They help me so I can think of how I feel and then I can think of how to have a better day. Because if I am frustrated, I get angry and cannot think to do my math. Zones of Regulation help me get control so I can think." 4th Grader
April Menu
Redesigning schools has built a network of teachers learning from each other as we dream, research, and implement. Meadowlark Elementary visited SGS on Friday. Our Tiger Ambassadors are an important piece of each visit! #TigerPride271
We continue our monthly birth-six year old read aloud sessions. Last Monday Mrs. Fleck read "Just Me and My Friend". The children each received a book, made a friendship bracelet and enjoy a friendship snack. We hope to see you on April 15 for our next reading celebration!

We had a bus-deer accident east of Stockton this morning, close to Woodston. There were NO students on the bus and the driver is fine but the bus is not drivable. Another bus and driver have been sent to cover the route.

K-7 Personalized Learning
Personalized learning allows all children to receive a customized learning experience. Students learn at their own pace with structure and support in challenging areas. Learning aligns with interests, needs and skills, and takes place in an engaging environment where students gain a better understanding of their strengths. ( National Center for Students with Learning Disabilities, Personalized Learning: Meeting the Needs of Students with Disabilities)
Our Kindergarten through 3rd grade classes take part in mixed-age guided reading groups. K-5 is using Lexia Core5 for personalized English/Language Arts instruction and DreamBox for Math instruction. This allows them to complete grade-level materials at their own pace. Lexia provides teachers with a recommended amount of units for each student to complete each week to stay on-target for grade-level success. The Junior High is using Power Up and Reading Plus as a personalized English/Language Arts platform. Several classrooms are using playlists for students to track their personal goals each week. This provides students with choice, accountability, and specific things they need to focus on. In the classrooms, teachers are utilizing small group instruction to deliver instruction geared toward different skills that students are working on as well as delivering the same materials at different levels.
It's time for another reading challenge! We hope you build reading into your spring break plans! If you get a BINGO, please return the form to the SGS office or Mrs. Bennett when you return from break. #TigerPride271
Before the staff stepped away for a much deserved Spring Break, they came together as a full pk-12 staff to focus on our “why” and “How might we-?” design thinking. It’s becoming less redesign and more -now design! #kstothemoon @ksredesign #TigerPride271
