Presentations included:
*Deadly Look A-likes... The girls from our high school showed us how easy it is to mistake something poisonous for something edible. They let the children guess which was which.
*Kari Hamilton from Southwest Dairy Farmers brought her dairy cow and taught us how much milk a cow gives a day, how much she eats a day, the difference between dairy and beef cows, and nutritional facts about milk products. She even let us watch her milk her cow and see the milk flow through the tubes to the clear container.
*Jess Beesley shared combine and equipment safety. We learned that it is important to turn off the equipment and take the key out before going out to work on the equipment or letting anyone near it.
*Midwest Energy linemen gave us a spectacular demonstration of what happens when things touch power lines that should not. They had a man made of pipe, hotdog, and grapefruit to show what happens when electricity meets humans!
*Jacob Brooke and his dog demonstrated firearm safety. The children loved watching the dog follow commands to find a pheasant hidden in a cooler.
*Each child got to make butter and eat it on a cracker. Patsy Maddy talked to them about healthy food choices while they shook the cream.
*At the handwashing station we got to use glow in the dark powder or cream to see how hard it is to remove germs.
*Wild Wings Agri Drones let the children touch and move parts on their very expensive drone while telling about using it to spray crops.
*Other topics included: corn seed germination, spin to answer ag questions, and ATV and lawn equipment safety.
Thank you to K-State Research and Extension- Phillips-Rooks District staff and the presenters for a great day of learning! #TigerPride271
